What Travellers Should Know

Air travel is the main way to enter

Travellers can enter Azerbaijan by air without the land-border restrictions that apply to overland entry. However, regional security conditions can affect commercial flight operations, so travellers should confirm their flight before departure.

Visa requirements

Visa requirements depend on nationality. Eligible travellers can apply online through Azerbaijan’s ASAN Visa system. Standard eVisas are normally single-entry and allow a stay of up to 30 days.

Passport validity

Travellers should check the requirements applying to their nationality. Current guidance for visa travellers generally requires a passport valid for at least six months after arrival.

Land borders

Do not assume that an international land crossing into Azerbaijan is open. Entry through land and sea borders remains restricted, and several neighbouring land borders are currently closed.

Armenia border

The Azerbaijan-Armenia border remains closed. Significant landmine and unexploded-ordnance risks also remain in several areas affected by previous conflict.

Iran border

The Azerbaijan-Iran land border is closed for ordinary travel. Exceptional crossings may require special authorization.

Latest Travel Changes

Regional security situation

Regional conflict has increased the risk of drone and missile activity affecting Azerbaijan. Travellers should monitor airline schedules and official security information because conditions can change quickly.

Land-border restrictions continue

Azerbaijan continues to restrict entry through land and sea borders. Travellers planning an overland journey should verify their route before departure rather than assuming a border crossing is available.

Before You Travel

Check your airline, airport information, Azerbaijan’s current visa and immigration requirements, border conditions and the travel advice issued by your own government before departure.

Avoid travelling near restricted border regions or into areas affected by landmines and unexploded ordnance unless officially permitted and considered safe.
