What Travellers Should Know

Visa requirements

Visa requirements depend on nationality. Some travellers qualify for a visa on arrival, but eligibility does not guarantee entry and travellers should check their requirements before departure.

Electronic arrival and departure cards

Bangladesh has introduced online arrival and departure registration for foreign nationals. Travellers may be required to complete an electronic arrival card before entering and an electronic departure card before leaving the country.

Passport requirements

Passport requirements depend partly on the visa being used. Travellers applying for a visa generally need sufficient passport validity and should ensure they have blank pages available for immigration stamps.

Return or onward ticket

Immigration officials may ask visitors to show evidence of onward or return travel, accommodation and other information about their trip.

Myanmar border

Travellers should avoid areas near the Myanmar border where violence from the conflict in Myanmar can spill into Bangladesh. Serious security warnings also apply to refugee camps near Cox’s Bazar.

Chittagong Hill Tracts

Significant travel warnings apply to Rangamati, Khagrachari and Bandarban because of unrest, crime, terrorism and kidnapping risks. Special permission may also be required to travel in these areas.

Flooding

Seasonal flooding and landslides can affect roads, transport and access to services, particularly in low-lying areas and parts of northeastern and southeastern Bangladesh.

Latest Travel Changes

Electronic arrival and departure registration

Bangladesh has introduced electronic arrival and departure cards for foreign nationals. Travellers should check whether online registration is required for their journey before departure.

Fuel and transport disruption

Current energy and fuel shortages have led authorities to introduce limits on some fuel sales. This may cause transport disruption and delays in parts of Bangladesh.

Flooding affecting some regions

Flash floods and landslides have affected parts of Bangladesh, including areas around Cox’s Bazar, the Chittagong Hill Tracts and Sylhet. Conditions can change quickly during periods of heavy rainfall.

Before You Travel

Check your airline, airport information, Bangladesh immigration requirements, weather conditions and the travel advice issued by your own government before departure.

If travelling overland or visiting Cox’s Bazar, the Chittagong Hill Tracts or areas near the Myanmar border, check current local security and road conditions before beginning your journey.
