Check current flight, airport, entry, border and travel warning information that could affect a trip to Cabo Verde.
Cabo Verde Status
NORMAL
Travel to Cabo Verde is operating normally. No major nationwide flight, airport or entry disruption has been identified. Travellers should complete the required pre-registration before arrival and be aware of increased crime risks in Praia.
Current Travel Conditions
What Travellers Should Know
EASE pre-registration
Foreign travellers must pre-register their trip through Cabo Verde’s EASE system before arrival. Travellers should normally complete the registration at least five days before travelling.
Airport Security Fee
Travellers must pay the Airport Security Fee, known as the TSA, unless they qualify for an exemption. From 1 July 2026, travellers who fail to complete the required pre-registration or cannot provide proof may have to pay double the TSA fee at border control.
Visa requirements
Visa requirements depend on nationality. Citizens of many countries can visit Cabo Verde without a visa for a short stay, while nationals of visa-required countries must obtain one before travelling. Visa exemption does not normally remove the EASE pre-registration requirement.
Passport requirements
Travellers should have a passport valid for at least six months from their date of entry into Cabo Verde.
Yellow fever
A yellow fever vaccination certificate may be required when arriving from a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission. Travellers arriving from other West African countries should check the requirement carefully before departure.
Crime in Praia
Cabo Verde is generally considered a relatively safe destination, but travellers should take additional precautions in Praia. Current U.S. guidance highlights pickpocketing, purse snatching, mugging, armed robbery and assault.
Travel between islands
Cabo Verde consists of multiple islands, so domestic flights and ferries are important for travelling around the country. Weather and sea conditions can occasionally affect inter-island transport.
Latest Travel Changes
Higher fee for missing pre-registration
From 1 July 2026, travellers who arrive without completing the required pre-registration or cannot show proof may have to pay double the Airport Security Fee at border control.
Normal international travel continues
No major nationwide aviation or immigration disruption currently prevents ordinary travel to Cabo Verde.
Praia requires additional caution
While Cabo Verde’s overall U.S. travel advisory remains Level 1, Praia is specifically listed at Level 2 because of an increased risk of crime.
Before You Travel
Complete your EASE pre-registration before departure and keep confirmation available when travelling. Also check your airline, visa requirements, health requirements and the travel advice issued by your own government.
If travelling between Cabo Verde’s islands, confirm domestic flight or ferry schedules separately because local weather and sea conditions can affect inter-island transport.
