What Travellers Should Know

Flights

Commercial aviation is operating normally overall. Zambia has international connections through Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka and other airports, as well as domestic services connecting major destinations.

Major airports

Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka is the country’s main international gateway. International airports also serve Livingstone, Ndola and Mfuwe.

Victoria Falls

Livingstone remains accessible for travellers visiting Victoria Falls. Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport provides air access to the area, while travellers can also cross between Zambia and Zimbabwe by land.

Visa requirements

Visa requirements depend on nationality. Nationals of some countries can visit Zambia without a visa, while others must obtain the appropriate visa or immigration authorization.

Passport requirements

Travellers should generally have a passport valid for at least six months after arrival and at least two blank pages for immigration stamps.

KAZA Univisa

Eligible travellers visiting both Zambia and Zimbabwe can use the KAZA Univisa. It allows unlimited travel between Zambia and Zimbabwe during its validity and also permits eligible day trips into Botswana.

Zimbabwe border

The Zambia-Zimbabwe crossing at Victoria Falls is operating and is commonly used by travellers visiting attractions on both sides of the falls.

Botswana border

The Kazungula crossing provides an important road connection between Zambia and Botswana. Travellers should meet the immigration requirements of both countries.

DR Congo border

Official crossings between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo operate, but travellers should exercise additional caution in remote border areas. Some sections are poorly demarcated and there is a risk of accidentally entering DRC outside an official crossing.

Landmines

Official Canadian guidance recommends increased caution within 20 kilometres of parts of Zambia’s borders with Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Mozambique because of landmine risks and, in some areas, crime.

Yellow fever

A yellow fever vaccination certificate may be required when arriving from a country where yellow fever transmission is considered a risk.

Health screening

Zambian authorities may introduce additional health screening or entry measures for travellers arriving from regions affected by serious disease outbreaks.

Border areas require additional care

Travellers heading into remote areas close to Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo or Mozambique should check local conditions because of landmine and security risks.

Before You Travel

Check your airline, passport and Zambian visa requirements before departure.

If travelling overland, confirm the opening hours and immigration requirements of your intended border crossing.

Use official border crossings, particularly when travelling near the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where parts of the international boundary can be difficult to identify.

If combining Zambia and Zimbabwe in one trip, check whether the KAZA Univisa is suitable for your itinerary.

Check yellow fever vaccination requirements if travelling from or through a country where yellow fever transmission is considered a risk.
