What Travellers Should Know

Paranair temporary suspension

Paranair has announced that it will temporarily stop operations from 30 September through 12 October 2026 while its aircraft undergoes scheduled major maintenance.

Services expected to resume

Paranair says regular operations on its existing routes are expected to resume from 13 October. Passengers booked during the affected period should check directly with the airline or their travel agency.

Other flights continue

This is not a closure of Paraguayan airspace or the country’s airports. Other airlines continue to provide international passenger services.

Asunción airport

Silvio Pettirossi International Airport remains Paraguay’s principal international aviation gateway and continues to operate.

Brazil border areas

Travellers should exercise additional caution in areas along Paraguay’s eastern and northeastern border with Brazil because of organized crime, drug trafficking, weapons smuggling and violent crime.

Higher-risk departments

Current U.S. guidance recommends increased caution in Alto Paraná, Amambay, Canindeyú, Concepción and San Pedro departments because of crime.

Ciudad del Este

Ciudad del Este is a major tourist and commercial destination close to Brazil and Argentina. Visitors should take normal precautions against theft and other crime and ensure immigration procedures are completed when crossing the border.

Get your entry recorded

Travellers entering Paraguay at a land border must complete immigration formalities at the point of entry. Do not rely on a bus driver or transport operator to arrange this later.

Brazil crossing

This is particularly important when entering through the Ciudad del Este-Foz do Iguaçu crossing. Travellers who fail to have their entry properly recorded can face a fine when leaving Paraguay.

Tri-Border Area

The region where Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina meet has significant cross-border movement but also organized criminal activity. Travellers should remain alert, particularly after dark.

Crime

Pickpocketing, bag theft, robbery and other crime occur. Travellers should be particularly cautious when withdrawing money from ATMs and avoid displaying valuables.
