There is no significant current nationwide disruption affecting tourism, commercial aviation or entry into Samoa.

Faleolo International Airport

Faleolo International Airport is Samoa’s principal international gateway and continues to handle scheduled international passenger services.

Entry requirements

Visa and visitor-permit requirements depend on nationality. Travellers should confirm the requirements applying to their passport before departure.

Visitor permits

Many nationalities can visit Samoa for short stays without obtaining a visa in advance. For example, current UK and Canadian guidance states that their citizens can receive permission for visits of up to 60 days.

Return or onward ticket

Immigration officials may require travellers to show a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation and evidence of sufficient funds for their stay.

Passport validity

Passport requirements vary by nationality. Current UK and Canadian guidance says passports should be valid for at least six months beyond the relevant travel period.

Yellow fever certificate

Proof of yellow fever vaccination may be required if arriving from or transiting through a country where yellow fever occurs.

Power outages

Power outages occur in Samoa and can occasionally affect transport, flights, telecommunications, water supplies, banking and other essential services.

Crime

Samoa is generally considered a safe destination. Petty theft such as pickpocketing and purse snatching occurs, while violent crime is relatively rare.

Driving

Traffic drives on the left. Foreign visitors who intend to drive may need to obtain a temporary Samoan driver’s licence.

Tropical weather

Samoa can experience tropical cyclones, heavy rainfall, flooding and landslides. Travellers should monitor official forecasts during periods of severe weather.

Earthquakes and tsunamis

Samoa is in a seismically active part of the Pacific. Travellers should be familiar with tsunami evacuation routes and follow local authorities after a strong or prolonged earthquake.

American Samoa is different

Samoa and American Samoa have separate immigration systems. Travellers continuing to American Samoa must meet American Samoa’s entry requirements rather than assuming that entry into Samoa also permits entry there.
