Current Travel Conditions

Flights
WATCH
Commercial flights are operating normally across most routes, but continuing Middle East tensions can cause short-notice changes, cancellations or rerouting on some regional services.
Airports
NORMAL
Turkey’s major international airports, including Istanbul, Sabiha Gökçen and Antalya, are operating and handling scheduled passenger flights.
Entry
NORMAL
Normal immigration procedures apply. Visa and eVisa requirements depend on nationality, and travellers should check the rules for their passport before departure.

LOCAL RESTRICTIONS
Land-border conditions vary by neighbouring country. Severe security warnings apply near the Syrian border, and travellers should verify individual crossings before an overland journey.
Travel Warnings
SEVERE LOCAL WARNINGS
Severe warnings apply within 10 km of the Syrian border and to specified areas of southeastern Turkey because of terrorism, armed conflict and security risks.

What Travellers Should Know

Most tourist destinations remain accessible

Ordinary tourism continues in Istanbul, Antalya, Cappadocia, Izmir and most other major visitor destinations. The strongest current security warnings are concentrated in southeastern Turkey and should not be interpreted as applying equally across the entire country.

Syrian border

The area close to Turkey’s border with Syria remains subject to severe travel warnings because of terrorism, armed conflict and the possibility of cross-border security incidents. Travellers should avoid areas covered by official warnings.

Southeastern Turkey

Additional warnings apply to Şırnak city and Hakkari Province. Travellers planning journeys through southeastern Turkey should check the latest security information for their exact route.

Regional flight disruption

Turkey’s airports remain operational and the country’s extensive domestic and international flight network continues to function. However, conflict elsewhere in the Middle East can lead airlines to alter routes, schedules or destinations at short notice.

Land-border travel

Turkey has land borders with several countries and conditions differ considerably between crossings. Travellers planning to enter or leave Turkey overland should check the current status of their intended crossing before departure.

Latest Travel Changes

Regional aviation remains sensitive to Middle East developments

Commercial aviation in Turkey continues, but airlines may make short-notice changes to services using airspace elsewhere in the Middle East. Travellers connecting to or from affected countries should monitor their airline closely.

Southeastern security warnings remain in place

Severe localized travel warnings continue near the Syrian border and in specified parts of southeastern Turkey. These restrictions do not represent a nationwide closure or disruption of ordinary tourism.

Major airports remain operational

Turkey’s principal international airports continue to handle scheduled passenger services. No nationwide airport shutdown or general suspension of international travel has been identified.

Before You Travel

Check the visa or eVisa requirements that apply to your nationality before departure.

Check your airline and individual flight status, particularly if your journey connects through another Middle Eastern country.

Avoid areas close to the Syrian border and other southeastern locations covered by severe government travel warnings.

If travelling overland, confirm that your intended international border crossing is open and suitable for foreign travellers.

Monitor local authorities and government travel advice if demonstrations or security incidents occur during your visit.

Travel Status is designed to highlight significant changes that could affect a trip. It is not a replacement for official immigration, airline or government advice.
