What Travellers Should Know

Visa requirements

Visa requirements depend on nationality. Many travellers can visit Belize without a visa for stays of up to 30 days, while others must obtain a visa before travelling.

Visa exemptions

Some travellers who would normally require a Belize visa may qualify for an exemption if they hold an eligible multiple-entry visa or permanent residence card from the United States, Canada or the Schengen Area.

Immigration and customs form

Travellers entering Belize must complete an immigration and customs declaration. Belize now offers an electronic embarkation form that can be completed online before travel, although paper declarations are still accepted during the transition to the digital system.

Passport requirements

Passport requirements vary according to nationality and visa status. Travellers should check that their passport meets Belize’s requirements and any additional validity requirements imposed by their airline.

Return or onward travel

Visitors may be required to provide evidence of an onward or return ticket and sufficient funds to cover their stay.

Belize City crime warning

Travellers should exercise particular caution in Belize City. Current U.S. guidance advises reconsidering travel to Southside Belize City because of violent and gang-related crime.

Hurricane and rainy season

Belize’s tropical storm and hurricane season normally runs from June through November. Heavy rain can cause flooding, road disruption and problems with local transport.

Latest Travel Changes

Digital immigration form

Belize is transitioning towards a digital immigration and customs declaration system. Travellers can complete the country’s electronic embarkation form online before arriving, while paper forms continue to be accepted during the transition.

Airport security measures

Security measures at Belize’s municipal airstrips were strengthened following a hijacking involving a domestic passenger aircraft in April 2025.

Before You Travel

Check your airline, airport information, Belize Immigration requirements, border conditions, local weather and the travel advice issued by your own government before departure.

If travelling during hurricane season, monitor weather forecasts carefully because tropical storms can disrupt flights, roads, ferries and other transport at short notice.

Travellers visiting Belize City should check current local security information and exercise particular caution in areas affected by gang-related violence.
