What Travellers Should Know

Thailand border closed

Land crossings between Cambodia and Thailand remain suspended. Travellers should not plan to cross between the two countries by road until the crossings officially reopen.

Thailand border security

Travellers should avoid areas close to the Cambodia-Thailand border. Fighting involving artillery, rockets and airstrikes occurred in 2025. Although a ceasefire was signed in December 2025, the situation remains tense.

Landmines

Landmines and unexploded ordnance remain a serious danger in some rural and border areas. Travellers should stay on established roads and paths and avoid entering unmarked areas.

Visa requirements

Visa requirements depend on nationality. Many foreign visitors can obtain a tourist eVisa before travelling, while visa-free arrangements apply to certain nationalities.

Cambodia e-Arrival

International travellers should check Cambodia’s electronic arrival requirements before departure and complete any required immigration, customs and health declarations within the specified period.

Passport requirements

Travellers should generally have a passport valid for at least six months from their date of entry into Cambodia and sufficient blank pages for immigration purposes.

Major tourist destinations

Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Cambodia’s other principal tourist areas remain accessible. The Thailand border restrictions do not mean that ordinary tourism throughout the entire country has stopped.

Overland travel

Travellers planning to enter or leave Cambodia overland should check the status of their specific crossing before departure. Do not assume that conditions at the Thailand border apply to every Cambodian international border.

Latest Travel Changes

Thailand land crossings remain suspended

Land crossings between Cambodia and Thailand remain suspended following the border conflict. Travellers who would normally use these crossings need to make alternative travel arrangements.

Border security remains tense

A ceasefire was signed on 27 December 2025 following fighting along parts of the Cambodia-Thailand border. However, official travel advice continues to warn against travel close to the border.

International flights continue

The border disruption has not resulted in a nationwide shutdown of international air travel. Travellers can continue to reach Cambodia by air, subject to normal airline and immigration requirements.

Before You Travel

Check your airline, Cambodia’s immigration requirements, electronic arrival requirements and the travel advice issued by your own government before departure.

If your itinerary involves Thailand and Cambodia, do not rely on an overland border crossing. Current land crossings remain suspended, so travellers should arrange an alternative route and check for changes immediately before travelling.
