Croatia Status

WATCH

Travel to Croatia is operating normally overall, with international flights, airports and immigration services functioning. However, travellers using Croatia’s external land borders should be aware of a current border-crossing closure, possible delays and the EU Entry/Exit System now operating at external Schengen borders.

Current Travel Conditions

Flights
NORMAL
No major nationwide disruption to scheduled international commercial flights has been identified.
Airports

Entry

Normal Schengen immigration rules apply. Eligible non-EU travellers are processed through the EU Entry/Exit System when crossing an external Schengen border.
Borders
LOCAL DISRUPTION
Most border crossings are operating, but traffic is currently suspended between the Stara Gradiška and Gradiška crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina because of bridge damage.
Travel Warnings
WATCH
Travel is generally operating normally, but current strong winds, wet roads and localized transport disruption can affect journeys.

What Travellers Should Know

Schengen Area

Croatia is part of the Schengen Area. Travellers arriving from another Schengen country normally do not pass through routine immigration controls, while arrivals from outside Schengen are subject to external border checks.

Visa requirements

Visa requirements depend on nationality. Travellers who can visit the Schengen Area without a visa can generally stay for up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area, not 90 days separately in Croatia.

Entry/Exit System

The EU Entry/Exit System is operating at Croatia’s external Schengen borders. It electronically records entries and exits of applicable non-EU short-stay travellers and uses biometric information including a facial image and, where applicable, fingerprints.

Passport requirements

Non-EU travellers should check the Schengen passport-validity requirements applying to their nationality before departure. Border officials may also request evidence of accommodation, sufficient funds and onward or return travel.

Borders with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro

These are external Schengen borders. Travellers crossing them should allow additional time for immigration checks and possible traffic delays, particularly during busy travel periods.

Stara Gradiška border closure

Traffic is currently suspended in both directions between the Stara Gradiška crossing in Croatia and Gradiška in Bosnia and Herzegovina because of bridge damage. Travellers should use an alternative crossing and check conditions before departure.

Road conditions

Strong winds can temporarily restrict traffic on exposed roads, bridges and sections of the Adriatic coast. Heavy rain, fog and roadworks can also cause delays.

Ferries

Ferry services connect mainland Croatia with many Adriatic islands. Strong winds and rough seas can occasionally cause delays or cancellations, so travellers should check their sailing before departure.

Latest Travel Changes

Stara Gradiška border crossing closed

Traffic is currently suspended between the Stara Gradiška and Gradiška border crossings on the Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina border because of bridge damage. Alternative crossings remain available.

Strong-wind road restrictions

Strong winds are affecting parts of Croatia’s road network today, particularly around Velebit and sections of the Adriatic coast. Restrictions apply to some vehicles on exposed roads and bridges.

Entry/Exit System fully operational

Croatia fully implemented the EU Entry/Exit System at its external Schengen borders in April 2026. Applicable non-EU travellers are now registered electronically rather than relying on traditional passport stamps.

Normal international travel continues

There is currently no nationwide disruption affecting Croatia’s international flights, airports or immigration system.

Before You Travel

Check your airline, passport and visa requirements and the travel advice issued by your own government before departure.

If entering or leaving Croatia by road through Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia or Montenegro, check your intended border crossing shortly before travelling. Border waiting times and crossing availability can change quickly.

If your route uses the Stara Gradiška-Gradiška crossing, plan an alternative route because traffic is currently suspended there due to bridge damage.

Drivers should also check current road conditions during periods of strong wind, particularly when travelling along the Adriatic coast.

Travel Status is designed to highlight significant changes that could affect a trip. It is not a replacement for official immigration, airline or government advice.
