Jamaica Status
WATCH
Travel to Jamaica is operating normally overall, including international flights and major airports. Travellers should be aware of current crime and health warnings, stronger security advice for specific communities and continuing hurricane recovery issues in some western areas.
Current Travel Conditions
What Travellers Should Know
Crime and security
Jamaica is currently under a U.S. Level 2 travel advisory because of crime and health risks. Violent crime remains a concern, although major tourist areas generally experience lower levels of violent crime than some other parts of the country.
Higher-risk areas
Stronger official warnings apply to specific communities in several parishes, including parts of Kingston and St Andrew, St James, St Catherine, Westmoreland, St Ann, Clarendon, St Elizabeth, Manchester and St Thomas.
Montego Bay
Montego Bay remains a major tourist destination and Sangster International Airport is operating normally. However, stronger security warnings apply to specific communities in St James Parish outside the main tourist areas.
Hurricane Melissa recovery
Some communities in western Jamaica are still recovering from Hurricane Melissa, which caused major damage in October 2025. Current UK guidance says some affected communities still have problems with electricity, piped water and access to healthcare.
C5 immigration and customs form
Travellers should complete Jamaica’s Immigration and Customs Form C5 online before arriving where possible.
Visa requirements
Visa requirements depend on nationality and length of stay. Check Jamaica’s immigration requirements for your passport before departure.
Yellow fever
Travellers arriving from countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission may need to show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate.
Hurricane season
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November. The season itself does not mean travel is disrupted, but travellers should monitor forecasts because tropical systems can affect flights, roads, resorts and cruise itineraries at short notice.
Road travel
Road conditions and driving standards vary considerably. Travellers should take additional care when driving at night or outside major tourist areas.
Medical care
Medical facilities vary across Jamaica, and treatment for serious conditions can be expensive. Some areas affected by Hurricane Melissa continue to have more limited healthcare access.
Latest Travel Changes
International aviation operating normally
No significant current nationwide aviation disruption has been identified. Sangster International Airport’s live flight information shows regular international arrivals operating.
Current U.S. advisory remains Level 2
The U.S. State Department’s current Jamaica advisory is Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution because of crime and health risks. Stronger Level 3 advice applies to a number of specific communities.
Hurricane recovery continues
Recovery from Hurricane Melissa continues in parts of western Jamaica. Some of the worst affected communities continue to experience infrastructure and healthcare limitations.
No current nationwide hurricane disruption
Hurricane season continues through November, but no current nationwide tropical-weather disruption has been identified that warrants classifying Jamaica’s flights or airports as disrupted today.
