Current Travel Conditions
What Travellers Should Know
No commercial airport
Liechtenstein does not have a commercial passenger airport. International visitors normally arrive through neighbouring Switzerland or Austria and continue by road or rail and bus.
Zurich Airport
Zurich Airport in Switzerland is one of the most convenient major international airports for reaching Liechtenstein. Travellers can continue by train towards eastern Switzerland and then connect by bus.
Schengen Area
Liechtenstein is part of the Schengen Area. The same short-stay Schengen rules generally apply as in neighbouring Switzerland and Austria.
Switzerland border
Liechtenstein and Switzerland have extremely close border and customs arrangements. The border is open for ordinary travel, although customs checks remain possible.
Austria border
The border with Austria is also an internal Schengen border. Ordinary cross-border travel is functioning normally.
Entry/Exit System
The EU Entry/Exit System is fully operational at external Schengen border crossings. It affects many non-EU nationals entering the Schengen Area for short stays. If you reach Liechtenstein after entering Schengen through another country, the relevant processing normally occurs at your external Schengen entry point.
Visa requirements
Visa requirements depend on nationality. Travellers requiring a Schengen visa should obtain the appropriate authorization before entering the Schengen Area.
90-day rule
For eligible visa-free visitors, time spent in Liechtenstein counts towards the Schengen limit of 90 days within any 180-day period.
Mountain conditions
Liechtenstein is mountainous. Avalanches, landslides and sudden weather changes can create hazards, particularly for hikers and travellers heading into higher elevations.
Getting around
Liechtenstein has an extensive bus network connecting communities including Vaduz, Schaan and Balzers and providing connections with neighbouring Swiss and Austrian transport networks.

U.S. advisory remains Level 1
The current U.S. State Department advisory is Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions.
