Oman Status
WATCH
Travel to Oman is operating overall, including international flights through Muscat and Salalah. However, Iranian airline services have recently been halted, regional security conditions remain unpredictable and official guidance warns that further escalation could cause flight cancellations or temporary airspace disruption.
Current Travel Conditions
What Travellers Should Know
Muscat remains open
Muscat International Airport is operating and continues to handle international passengers. Oman is not currently experiencing a nationwide aviation shutdown.
Salalah remains open
Salalah Airport is also operating. Travellers should continue checking individual flights because regional aviation conditions can change quickly.
Iranian airline services
Iranian airline services to Muscat have been halted following new restrictions affecting Iranian carriers. This is a targeted aviation disruption and does not mean Oman’s wider international flight network has closed.
Regional airspace
Omani airspace remains open, but conflict elsewhere in the region can affect flight routes. Airlines may reroute, delay or cancel services if security conditions deteriorate.
Regional security
Current official guidance warns that the Middle East security situation remains unpredictable. Oman has previously been affected by strikes connected to the wider regional conflict, and further escalation remains possible.
Visa requirements
Oman’s visa requirements depend on nationality and length of stay. Some nationalities can enter without a visa for a short visit, while others must obtain an eVisa before travelling.
UAE border
Oman has several land-border crossings with the United Arab Emirates. Travellers should check that their immigration status permits the intended crossing and ensure they have appropriate vehicle insurance if driving.
Saudi Arabia border
Overland travel between Oman and Saudi Arabia is possible through the Empty Quarter crossing. Travellers must meet Saudi immigration and visa requirements separately.
Yemen border
The Yemen border region carries severe official security warnings because of terrorism and armed conflict. Travellers should not treat this border in the same way as Oman’s crossings with the UAE or Saudi Arabia.
Road travel
Long-distance driving in Oman can involve remote desert roads with limited services. Carry sufficient water and fuel and make sure your vehicle is suitable for the intended route.
Flash floods
Heavy rain can produce dangerous flash flooding in wadis and low-lying areas. Never attempt to drive through floodwater or enter a wadi when severe weather warnings are in effect.

Before You Travel
Check your airline, passport and Omani visa requirements before departure.
Confirm your flight directly with the operating airline shortly before travelling because regional airspace conditions can change quickly.
If your itinerary involves Iran, check carefully because Iranian airline services to Oman have recently been halted.
If travelling overland between Oman and the UAE or Saudi Arabia, check the immigration, visa and vehicle requirements for both countries.
Avoid the Yemen border area covered by severe official security warnings.
Monitor local weather conditions before driving through wadis or remote areas because flash flooding can make roads dangerous very quickly.
