Current Travel Conditions
What Travellers Should Know
Ordinary travel continues
There is no significant nationwide disruption affecting tourism, commercial aviation or travel between Poland’s major cities.
Germany border controls
Temporary border controls are currently in place on the Poland-Germany land border. Travellers should carry valid travel documents and allow additional time for possible checks.
Lithuania border controls
Poland has also temporarily reintroduced controls on its land border with Lithuania. These checks can affect travellers moving between Poland and the Baltic states.
Controls extended into 2027
The current Polish controls run through 1 October 2026. A further notified period begins on 2 October and continues through 30 March 2027.
Belarus border
The Poland-Belarus border is not completely closed, but only limited crossings remain available and individual checkpoints can close or face additional restrictions at short notice.
Russia border
Crossing options between Poland and Russia’s Kaliningrad region are restricted. Travellers should check the exact checkpoint they intend to use before departure.
Ukraine border
Official crossings between Poland and Ukraine continue operating, but travellers should be prepared for possible long delays. Russian military strikes have occurred in Ukraine close to the Polish border.
Restricted border zones
Access to areas immediately beside Poland’s borders with Ukraine, Belarus and Russia is restricted in some locations. Travellers should obey signs and instructions from the Polish Border Guard.
Poland is in Schengen
Poland is a member of the Schengen Area. Time spent in Poland counts towards the Schengen 90-days-in-any-180-days limit for travellers subject to that rule.
Entry/Exit System
Eligible non-EU short-stay travellers may need to register biometric information when entering or leaving the Schengen Area through Poland.
Russian-registered vehicles
Poland continues to prohibit entry of certain Russian-registered passenger vehicles under European Union sanctions.
Ukraine conflict
The war in neighbouring Ukraine has occasionally affected Polish airspace and border areas. Travellers near the Ukrainian border should follow instructions from Polish authorities.
