What Travellers Should Know

Doha remains open

Qatar remains open to international travellers and Hamad International Airport continues to operate as a major global transit hub.

Regional airspace

The security situation across the Middle East remains unpredictable. Missile or drone attacks and military developments can lead to flight cancellations, rerouting or temporary airspace restrictions with little notice.

Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways continues to operate an extensive international network. Passengers should nevertheless check individual flights shortly before departure because routes through the region can be affected by changing airspace restrictions.

Transit through Doha

International connections through Hamad International Airport continue. Transit passengers should check both sectors of their journey because disruption elsewhere in the Middle East can affect connections even when Doha airport itself remains open.

Security situation

The current U.S. travel advisory places Qatar at Level 3: Reconsider Travel because of the risk of armed conflict. It highlights the continuing threat of missile and drone attacks.

Previous attacks

Qatar has been affected by strikes and retaliatory attacks during the wider regional conflict. Travellers should therefore treat official security alerts seriously even when ordinary life and airport operations appear normal.

Visa requirements

Entry requirements depend on nationality. Citizens of many countries can receive a visa waiver on arrival, while others must arrange authorization before travelling.

Passport validity

Travellers should normally have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival and meet the immigration conditions applying to their nationality.

Saudi Arabia land border

Qatar’s only international land border is with Saudi Arabia. The Abu Samra crossing is open for passenger travel, but travellers must meet Saudi immigration and visa requirements if continuing overland.

Prescription medication

Qatar has strict rules concerning controlled and prescription medicines. Some medicines require prior authorization from Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health before they can be brought into the country.

Local laws

Qatar has strict laws concerning drugs, alcohol, public behaviour, photography and online activity. Visitors remain subject to Qatari law while in the country.

Latest Travel Changes

International aviation continues

Hamad International Airport and Qatar Airways continue to operate international services. There is no current nationwide closure of Qatar’s aviation system.

Regional security risk remains elevated

Official travel advice continues to warn that further military escalation could cause flight cancellations and periodic airspace closures.

U.S. advisory remains Level 3

The U.S. State Department’s current advisory remains Level 3: Reconsider Travel because of armed-conflict risk and the continuing threat of missile and drone attacks.

Foreign airline schedules remain affected

Some international airlines continue to operate reduced or altered services across the Gulf following earlier conflict-related disruption.

UK guidance remains current

Current UK guidance warns travellers in Qatar to be prepared for possible flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures and other travel disruption if regional hostilities escalate.

Before You Travel

Check your airline, passport and Qatar visa requirements before departure.

Confirm your flight directly with the operating airline shortly before travelling because regional airspace conditions can change quickly.

If connecting through Doha, check both your arriving and onward flights rather than assuming the entire itinerary is operating because Hamad International Airport is open.

If travelling overland to Saudi Arabia, check Saudi visa and immigration requirements separately before reaching the Abu Samra border.

Check Qatar’s rules before carrying prescription or controlled medication into the country.

Monitor official security information and follow instructions from Qatari authorities if missile, drone or other emergency warnings are issued.
