What Travellers Should Know

Temporary internal border controls

Sweden has temporarily reintroduced controls at its internal Schengen borders. Checks can take place at airports, ports and land crossings, including arrivals from Denmark, Norway and Finland and other intra-Schengen travel.

Carry your travel documents

Travellers arriving from another Schengen country should not assume that they will pass without a document check. Carry a valid passport, national identity card where accepted, and any visa or residence documentation required for your journey.

Denmark to Sweden

Travellers crossing from Denmark into Sweden, including by road or train across the Öresund connection, can be subject to Swedish border checks. Allow additional time in case a check takes place.

Flights and airports

Commercial aviation is operating normally and no significant nationwide airport disruption has been identified. Travellers should still check their individual flight before travelling to the airport.

Entry requirements

Normal Schengen entry rules apply. Non-EU and non-EEA travellers should check passport validity, visa requirements and the permitted length of stay before departure.

Latest Travel Changes

Internal border controls extended

Sweden’s temporary internal border controls are currently in force from 12 May to 11 November 2026. The controls cover internal borders and mean travellers arriving from other Schengen countries can be selected for checks.

No major nationwide aviation disruption identified

International and domestic flights continue to operate and Sweden’s major passenger airports remain open. The current Travel Status WATCH classification is therefore primarily due to the temporary border-control measures rather than an aviation disruption.

Before You Travel

Check your airline and individual flight status before travelling to the airport.

Confirm the passport and visa requirements that apply to your nationality.

Carry valid travel documents even when entering Sweden from another Schengen country because temporary internal border checks are currently in force.

Allow additional time if travelling into Sweden by road, train, ferry or intra-Schengen flight in case you are selected for a border check.
