Current Travel Conditions
What Travellers Should Know
Flights are operating
Tonga continues to receive scheduled international flights. The country’s international aviation network is relatively small, so travellers should check their individual flight before departure, particularly when making connections through another Pacific country.
Fua’amotu International Airport
Fua’amotu International Airport on Tongatapu is Tonga’s main international gateway and is operating normally. Domestic flights connect Tongatapu with other island groups.
Entry requirements
Entry rules depend on nationality. Travellers from eligible countries can receive visitor permission on arrival, normally for a short stay. Travellers from countries outside the visa-waiver arrangements need to obtain authorization before travelling.
Passport and onward travel
Travellers should have a passport meeting Tonga’s validity requirements and may need to show a return or onward ticket and evidence that they can support themselves during their stay.
Natural hazards
Tonga is exposed to earthquakes, volcanic activity, tsunamis and tropical cyclones. These are standing natural risks and do not currently represent a nationwide travel disruption. Travellers should follow local warnings if conditions change.
Latest Travel Changes
