Uganda Status
WATCH
Travel to Uganda continues, with international flights and Entebbe International Airport operating. Uganda’s Ebola outbreak was declared over in August 2026, but restrictions remain on much of the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where an Ebola outbreak continues. Some countries also maintain health measures for travellers arriving from Uganda.
Current Travel Conditions
What Travellers Should Know
Uganda’s Ebola outbreak is over
The Ebola outbreak inside Uganda was officially declared over on 27 August 2026 after the required period without new cases. However, the outbreak in neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo continues and Uganda maintains precautions to reduce the risk of the disease crossing the border.
DRC border restrictions
Crossing between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo remains restricted for most travellers. Travellers should not assume that their intended Uganda-DRC crossing is available and should verify its status before travelling.
Travelling after visiting Uganda
Some countries continue to impose health screening or other temporary entry measures on travellers who have recently been in Uganda. These can affect onward travel even though Uganda’s domestic Ebola outbreak has ended.
Western Uganda security
There is an elevated security risk near parts of the DRC border. Armed groups operate across the border in eastern DRC, and attacks have previously occurred in western Uganda. Individual border crossings can close at short notice if security deteriorates.
Visa and yellow fever requirements
Travellers who require a Ugandan visa should apply through the official online system before travelling. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry and travellers should carry the physical certificate.
Latest Travel Changes
Uganda declared Ebola-free
The World Health Organization declared Uganda’s 2026 Ebola outbreak over on 27 August. This was a significant improvement, but precautions remain because the outbreak in neighbouring DRC continues.
DRC border restrictions continue
Restrictions introduced during the regional Ebola emergency continue to affect travel across the Uganda-DRC border, with only limited exceptions.
Other countries may restrict travellers from Uganda
Some destinations continue to apply health screening, quarantine or entry restrictions to people who have recently travelled in Uganda. Travellers continuing to another country should therefore check that country’s current requirements before leaving Uganda.
Before You Travel
Apply for the appropriate Ugandan visa online before departure and carry your visa authorization documentation.
Carry your yellow fever vaccination certificate, as it is required for entry.
If travelling near or across the DRC border, confirm that your intended crossing is open and check the current security situation.
If travelling to another country after visiting Uganda, check whether that destination currently imposes Ebola-related screening or entry restrictions on recent visitors to Uganda.
Check your airline and individual flight status before travelling to the airport.
