Hi Kojo, I am planning a solo trip later this year and safety is the one thing that matters to me more than anything else. I know that no country is perfect, but I want to go somewhere I do not have to constantly worry about my security. At the same time, I don’t want to end up in a place that feels too quiet or boring. From your travels and what you have seen, which country do you think is the safest to travel to currently that also has plenty of things to do and experience? I would feel so much more confident if I had your perspective.

When we talk about the safest country in the world right now, Iceland almost always comes up. Crime is practically nonexistent in that country and the people are warm and welcoming. And the landscapes look like something out of another planet. It’s a dream if you love nature and quiet escapes.

But there’s a catch. From a visitor’s perspective (especially if you’re the type who wants constant excitement, food variety, and a buzzing social life) Iceland can feel a little limited. Beyond the natural wonders and a few cultural spots in Reykjavik, you might find yourself running out of things to do if you’re looking for non-stop experiences in addition to safety of course.

That’s why my personal pick at this moment is Singapore. It matches Iceland in safety but also gives you an endless list of things to do. From its hawker food culture to futuristic landmarks and beaches, Singapore is safe without ever being boring. I’ve been there multiple times, and every single trip reminded me why this little city-state is so special.

Honestly speaking, when it comes to safety, Singapore is almost unmatched. You can walk around at night, take the train across town, or even leave your bag on a table at a café for a moment, and you won’t have that constant sense of worry you might feel elsewhere. The laws are strict and that in turn gives birth to very low crime. Anyone who has been to Singapore would agree with me when I say the whole city is designed to make residents and visitors feel secure.

Not boring too

The good thing about Singapore is that it gives you the best of both worlds. Normally the safer a society is, the boring it becomes. But Singapore is far from boring. In fact, it’s one of the most exciting places I’ve ever been. The food scene alone could keep you busy for weeks, from hawker centers serving some of the best street food in the world to Michelin-starred restaurants that don’t even cost a fortune.

Then you’ve got the nightlife at Clarke Quay, the futuristic sights at Gardens by the Bay, the beaches and fun at Sentosa, and even quiet escapes like the Botanic Gardens.

For me, that’s what makes Singapore stand out. You get the best of both worlds. You get a very safe society that is very vibrant and alive and packed to the brim with fun things to do. So whether you’re into food, culture, shopping, nature, or just exploring a city that works like clockwork, it is very difficult to run out of things to do.

So all in all if I had to give one answer, Singapore would be my answer. And to give you a taste of how visitors themselves see it, below is a video where my team and I talk to people who came to Singapore and shared their impressions.
