A scary incident unfolded at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday night when two Delta Airlines planes clipped each other while taxiing.

According to reports, the two aircraft involved were CRJ-900 regional jets. The collision oddly happened right on the taxiway, not during takeoff or landing, which meant there were no major injuries. However, the nose of one plane and the wing of the other were visibly damaged.

What Happened?

While details are still emerging, initial reports suggest that one aircraft may have turned too closely toward the other, causing the wing of one plane to strike the nose section of the other. Pilots generally rely on ground control instructions and taxiway markings, but visibility of the wingtips from the cockpit can sometimes be limited.

Aviation enthusiasts online are already questioning how such a crash could happen, given that modern aircraft are fitted with bright LED lights. Some experts point out that while the lights help illuminate the taxiway, pilots still cannot clearly see the far ends of their wings, especially at night.

Passengers on board both planes were startled but safe. Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, and both aircraft were taken out of service for inspection and repairs.
