When I think of Singapore, three things always come to mind: the food, the endless fun, and how ridiculously easy it is to get around. Every time I land in Changi, I feel like I’ve stepped into one of the world’s smoothest travel playgrounds. And there are a ton of fun things to do in Singapore. Sometimes it surprises me how such a tiny island could have so many entertaining things for visitors.

The Food

It doesn’t matter if you’re at a hawker centre, a humble food stall, or a Michelin-starred restaurant. The thing is Singapore knows how to feed you well. From the smoky wok hei of char kway teow to a comforting bowl of laksa, the city is a paradise for food lovers.

On my last trip, I spent entire evenings hopping between stalls, comparing chicken rice in one corner and satay in another. Affordable, delicious, and authentic. That’s the beauty of Singapore’s food culture.

Kojo enjoying durian in Singapore

My first durian adventure in Singapore and an unforgettable taste.

If you’re adventurous like me, you’ll even give durian a try. People call it the “king of fruits” and honestly, whether you love it or hate it, tasting it in Singapore is an experience you won’t forget.

Fresh coconut and dessert served in Singapore

Cooling off with coconut and sweet treats after exploring.

And when the heat gets too much, a fresh coconut or shaved ice dessert is the perfect way to cool off.

Plates of hawker food and coconut juice in Singapore

A true Singaporean feast with satay, noodles and fresh coconut on the street.

For me, the heart of it all is still the hawker centres. No trip feels complete without sitting at a plastic table surrounded by sizzling plates and the buzz of locals enjoying their favorite dishes.

The Fun

Singapore doesn’t just feed your stomach. It fills your days and nights with endless things to do. One moment you’re walking down Haji Lane snapping photos of colorful murals, the next you’re at Marina Bay Sands watching the skyline light up.

Even food and fun come together here. At Lau Pa Sat, the satay street transforms into a festival of flavors every night.

Cable car ride to Sentosa Island in Singapore

Taking the cable car to Sentosa for stunning views over the island.

And then there’s Sentosa. Whether you’re riding the cable car for breathtaking views or exploring its beaches and attractions, Sentosa makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a tropical playground right in the middle of the city.

The Stress-Free Transport

Here’s where Singapore beats almost every other city I’ve visited: transportation. The MRT is fast, clean, and covers the entire island. Buses are reliable, taxis are everywhere, and ride-hailing apps like Grab make moving around a breeze.

Clean and efficient MRT travel makes getting around stress free.

Unlike other places where public transport feels like a challenge, Singapore makes it effortless. Tap your card, hop on, and you’re off.

Smooth rides on the MRT keep Singapore well connected.

I’ve taken the MRT countless times, and every single ride has been straightforward and comfortable.

Quick Singapore Travel Tips

Over the years I’ve visited Singapore multiple times, and I’ve picked up a few tricks that always make my trips smoother. Here are some quick tips if you’re planning your own adventure:

  1. Get an EZ-Link card: Don’t waste time buying single MRT tickets. Grab an EZ-Link card or use your contactless bank card. It really makes hopping on the MRT and buses stress free.
  2. Stay hydrated: Singapore is hot and humid almost year-round. I’ve learned the hard way that carrying a bottle of water saves you from unnecessary exhaustion. A fresh coconut from a hawker stall doesn’t hurt either.
  3. Eat where the locals eat: Forget about fancy restaurants at first. Head straight to hawker centres like Lau Pa Sat, Maxwell Food Centre, or Chinatown Complex. The food is cheaper, tastier, and more authentic.
  4. Carry light clothes: It’s always summer in Singapore. Pack lightweight, breathable clothes and comfortable walking shoes. You’ll thank yourself after a long day exploring.
  5. Respect the rules: Singapore is famously strict with littering, chewing gum, or smoking in public places. I’ve seen tourists get fined for simple things, so just be mindful and you’ll be fine.
  6. Use the free attractions: Some of my favorite experiences in Singapore didn’t cost me anything. Visiting the Merlion, exploring Little India, or just wandering Clarke Quay at night are all free.
  7. Mix in a day trip to Sentosa: Don’t just stick to the city centre. A quick cable car ride takes you to Sentosa Island where you can enjoy beaches, adventure parks, and relaxing views.
  8. Don’t believe the lies about Singapore: I hear people online saying Singapore is boring or too strict. Some have even called it a police state. The interesting thing is that most of the time those comments come from people who have never even set foot in the country. From my own experience, it’s one of the most exciting and visitor-friendly places in the world.
